Emptiness engulfed Olivia after her youngest daughter Lucy moved out of the house to university. With no regrets or thoughts of resentment, Olivia walked away from her marriage, reaching out for emotional support from her brother, his wife, and her daughters. Olivia took stock of her financial situation, embracing an uncertain future with faith everything would fall into place. Andrew Walker proved her faith to be well founded.

I know this has taken some time, and some frustration on my part waiting for the revised versions to be uploaded to Amazon, but now all is done.
I've edited out around 10,000 words from Olivia, and let me explain why. Firstly, I realised a year after first publishing the story, the somewhat graphic sex scenes tended to take something away from the love story and underlying life lessons both Olivia North and Andrew Walker experienced. Of course sex had to be part of the story, however, it needed to be in the context of a natural extension of the relationship they developed, and nothing more. Secondly, I continue to look for ways to improve my writing and I believe I have done so by cutting out text superfluous to the flow of the story.
This story is so close and dear to my heart. I love the characters and I love the setting for the story. I know the locations well and each has a special place in my heart.
I hope new readers will enjoy Olivia's story and come to enjoy the book as much as I've enjoyed the process of writing and polishing what I truly believe is a great love story. Many will also see the lessons in the story that may make us think more deeply about our own lives. Click here or on the pic to visit Awakening Olivia North on Amazon.
It's funny how my thoughts and motivations change over time. I'm back rewriting sections of Awakening Olivia North for the following reasons...
I think Olivia is first and foremost a love story, and a very good one. I think in trying to incorporate erotic lovemaking throughout the book, I ended up with a story torn between a beautiful romance and one that was at the same time trying to appeal to a more narrow audience who may normallly only read comtemporary erotic sex novels. I was struck by one review I received in which somone I respected poited this out to me and commented the latter chapters of the book contained somewhat repetative sex scenes that may not only detract from the overall feel of the book, but may in fact turn off the audience who would otherwise be attracted to the tender romance and reawakening of Olivia's sense of self as her realtionship with Andrew progresses.
Also, each time I read sections of the story, I feel I can improve my writing. Awakening Olivia North is a constant work in progress, and I make no apologies for that. I hope to have the revisions completed within this month and will keep you posted.

I imagine some may wonder how I came to feel such empathy with Olivia North and the level of frustration she felt with her husband. I've known many women in similar relationships, and I really do believe it's critical for men to understand what constitutes a meaningful and intimate relationship for women. As a man, I learned lessons the hard way, and so many times it was far too late to try undoing the damage my fragile self-esteem had caused.
Andrew Walker understood. He'd made all the mistakes in his previous marriages. He'd been too busy taking care of his own work, his own life, and his own ego, to see the signs of a relationship falling apart. Andrew Walker wasn't particularly looking for another relationship.
Olivia was unlike most women he'd met, and the more he got to know her, the more he felt captivated by her honesty, her integrity, her kindness, and her sense of humor. He'd learned how to listen, learned how to be present, and learned how to show empathy. He was not the same man who'd screwed things up so many times before.
Olivia's marriage to Christopher North was unfulfilling in ways that really matter to most women. There was little respect, little if any intimacy, no passion, and no sense of being in a shared partnership of life. She had become nothing more than an attractive doormat. Having stayed in the marriage until her daughters both left home, Olivia knew she had nobody to blame for allowing herself to become so trapped. She had relinquished her freedom, she had accepted the unacceptable for way too many years. She knew it was time to take back her life, and in Andrew Walker, she found something incredibly tender, sensual, and special.
You all know how much I loved this story and characters. I can't hide that, can I?
I have copied this excerpt from the Awakening Olivia North website. It is a lovely scene from the story.
The matriarch of the chicken rice shop gave a quick smile to Andrew as she saw them approaching. To Olivia, she walked around the counter and gave a very big smile and a Thai Sawasdee as she clasped her hands together in front of her.
“Oh shit, you’ve made an impact here. This is only your second visit and I’ve been here too many times to count.”
She laughed. “Well don’t worry dear boy. You either have it, or you don’t.”
He could see why everyone liked Olivia North. Her smile had the same effect on people she interacted with as the rising sun had on the day. She made things come alive and lit up the world. He sensed this the first day they met. He knew he was a lucky man to be sitting across a small table with her sharing such good food for breakfast. He sat with his back facing the street, knowing how she loved to watch the world pass by. She soaked it all in, the sounds of the traffic, the crazy motorcycles, and the people scurrying along the footpath in front of the shop.
Olivia then said something that made him smile. “Do know something… I’ve really noticed myself becoming much more an observer of life. Of people, places, and nature. I’m sure I’m seeing things I never noticed before.”
He could relate to what she was saying. He called it the slowing of the mind, the ability to stop thinking about what is coming next, or what had passed, and simply observing what is happening in the present moment.
I am continually placing short excerpts from Awakening Olivia North on the book website. Please drop by there and read some of what I believe make this such a lovely story. Click on the pic below to link to the book website.
I started out to write a romance novel with great lovemaking scenes and found as the story of Awakening Olivia North evolved, it came to contain so much more than sex or romance. This is not only about wonderfully erotic lovemaking, nor only about romance in gorgeous locations, but I believe it says a lot about life also, and how we should all strive to get back to the true essence of who we are.
Olivia North walked away from a bad marriage, taking back her life, her sense of self, and her sensuality. Her daughters had grown and left home to study, and her husband’s cold arrogance ate away at her soul. I'm certain many women will relate to the emotional emptiness Olivia experienced in her marriage, and I hope they come away from reading this with hope for the future.
Andrew Walker had been shattered after losing the love of his second wife, and the years of introspection that followed had bought home to him a better understanding of the fragility of the male ego and how his own insecurities played a large part in what caused the marriage to fail. Also, he learned what a critical part emotional intimacy and support means in an enduring relationship. I believe men should read this also, as they often miss the simple things a woman needs to feel truly loved and appreciated.
